My name is Anne and I am painting simply for the joy of creating. Well, I didn’t necessarily need a website just to tell you this, but let’s be honest for a moment. How often do we consider our creations unworthy to share or barely good enough for ourselves, so we do not dare to share it with the public because we are too scared of others opinions. Personally, I have thought like this myself for quite some time. After my first public display of my paintings back in 2010 I slowly started to compare myself to the artists around me, who I considered way more talented. This feeling of others being the better artists grew to a degree where I simply stopped creating. It was not something you might call creative blockage, but more of a sense of shame for not being good enough. Later on I joined a creative community with absolutely brilliant and passionate photographers, musicians, fine artists and graphic designers, whose work I have admired so much. In the beginning the creative spirit did give me tonnes of energy to draw and paint and craft as well. But even then I couldn’t shake the feeling of everyone always being better than me. I am not a trained fine artist to be clear and yes, there are so many people whose skills I would love to have myself, but does that mean my art is worthless? Worthless in a sense of either being hidden away or not worth to even have been made? Should I just quit the whole artist thing?

It took me several years and a good push from my husband to realise, that it does not nurture your spirit being that critical with yourself. Perfection does not exist. I was never going to be like all the other people I had seen and admired over the years. The wide range of what is considered art leaves room for each one of us creatives. Professionell or amateur. Art is the place where you can experiment, be crazy, be yourself or someone different entirely. So if you’re anything like me and can relate to my journey, let me tell you this: You are great the way you are and it’s time to show the world!

I once heard something in the sense of: “There is always someone who will like what you created somewhere in the world. You just need to find them!” Well…maybe I’ll find them or maybe not. Either way I will keep creating and putting myself out there. I hope you may find joy in my creations as I did while making them.
